The Tesla Model S Plaid has taken part in and won numerous acceleration races, so finding worthy rivals for it has gradually become a challenge. In the latest video from Carwow, Elon Musk’s fastest EV so far goes up against two extremely tuned ICE cars. Do they have what it takes?
Standing next to the Model S Plaid at the start line is a Porsche 911 Turbo and a BMW M5. In case you need a reminder, the Plaid spec has three motors and sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under two seconds despite its solid 2,200 kilos (4,850 pounds) of weight.
The Porsche seen here is a far cry from stock, though. It churns out 1,011 horsepower and weighs much less than the Tesla at 1,650 kg (3,637 lbs). The M5 is no slouch either, packing 1,000 hp with a curb weight of 1,850 kg (4,079 lbs).
To summarize: all participants have roughly the same power, and the Tesla is by far the heaviest of the bunch. Is it finally outclassed? Check out the video and find out.
