Drag Race: GR Corolla vs. Civic Type R vs. Elantra N

The new Toyota GR Corolla is one hot hatchback, and yet we haven’t seen it on the drag strip that often. The YouTube team of Throttle House finally gives us an opportunity to see how it compares against its main rivals.

Going up against the power-boosted Corolla is a Hyundai Elantra N and a previous-gen Honda Civic Type R (a shame, the latest generation would be more interesting). Anyway, the Elantra N uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to drive the wheels with 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW). The Civic Type R boasts a superior 310 PS (306 hp / 228 kW) from the same displacement volume. The GR Corolla slots in between with 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) at its disposal.

There are important nuances, though. First off, the Corolla makes do with a 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine. Second, it benefits from AWD, whereas its competitors drive their front wheels exclusively.

How do they compare? Watch the 10-minute video to see a whole series of races leaving no questions unanswered.
