JDM Toyota Corolla gets more power, new features heading into 2023

Toyota has updated its Corolla lineup in Japan, retouching the base versions, hybrid powertrains and the Sport range. All of these will be obtainable with new multimedia features (standard and paid) and more efficient engines.

The exterior changes are few: the headlights and the lower front bumper are redesigned, but that’s about it. Customers can now choose from new exterior colors and upgrade their infotainment touchscreen from 8-inch to 10.5-inch. Wi-Fi support and dashcam are listed under new options.

The electronic assists on board have become more intelligent, now recognizing cars and people on the road during right turns on intersections. Using a feature called Proactive Driving Assist will actively intercept steering and braking to prevent hitting pedestrians, cyclists or parked cars. The entire software suite, including the safety aids, now supports OTA updates.

Powertrain-wise, customers get to choose between a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, its 2.0-liter cousin and a 1.8-liter hybrid system. The gas engines were updated for optimized fuel consumption, while the hybrid was reworked in its electric aspect. The details are lacking at this moment, but Toyota revealed that it would cost from ¥1,990,000.
