Volkswagen ID.Buzz barely surpasses Multivan T7 at moose test

Spanish publication km77 has shared another moose test footage. This time around, the team looked into how good the all-electric ID.Buzz is at evading sudden obstacles on the road. It fell short of the speed required to pass the test, but proved more agile than an ICE van from the same manufacturer.

The first attempt was made at 76 km/h (47.2 mph), when the driver still didn’t know what to expect from the van in terms of handling. The vehicle ended up hitting a traffic cone at the switchback and nearly leaving its corridor towards the end. The expert team considered the test run a failure, but praised the van for predictable steering responses.

After several more attempts, a clean run was finally made at 71 km/h (44.1 mph). The test protocol sets the passing speed at 77 km/h (47.8 mph). The drivers noted that the electronic aids interfered too aggressively during abrupt lane switches and prevented the van from staying on a linear trajectory.

In the end, the ID.Buzz barely surpassed the gas-powered Multivan T7, which only scored 69 km/h (42.9 mph) when it was tested. It also yielded leadership to the all-electric SAIC Maxus Euniq 5. The China-made van managed to complete all maneuvers at an impressive 76 km/h (47.2 mph).

Surprisingly, the German van came ahead of both models in the slalom test. It completed the entire slalom course in 25.7 seconds, as opposed to the 26.5 and 26.7 seconds of the two vans mentioned above.

The ID.Buzz tested was a single-motor/RWD spec rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW).
