Xpeng G9 crops up on patent office shots, promises 700+ km of range

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and IT has shared some information about the Xpeng G9, a full-size electric SUV set to go on sale later this summer. As it turns out, the car can do 702 km/h (436 mi) on a charge.

In June, Xpeng officially announced that the car would be nearly 4.9 meters long and weigh 2.8 metric tons. Air-ride suspension and rapid charging are both listed under options.

The original announcement last year made us think that the G9 would be a dual-motor EV with four driven wheels, but it is official now that the car will have two main specifications. One will have a single RWD motor and 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW), while the other one will have the AWD drivetrain described above and 551 PS (543 hp / 405 kW).

A 96-kWh traction battery will let the AWD version cover 650 km (404 miles) on a single charge, while the single-motor variant will be even more efficient with 702 km (436 miles) of range. Replenishing 200 km (124 miles) worth of charge will only take 5 minutes thanks to rapid charging.

Preorders will be opened next month, and direct offline sales will begin in September this year. Prices remain to be announced, but the company promised to keep the base price well under 500,000 CNY ($74,500). Later on, Xpeng may offer the same model in Europe, where it already sells another one of its cars.
