Cool Toyota FJ40 crops up on sale again after full restoration

Icon 4x4, a company best known for restoring and modernizing classic off-roaders, produced this Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 restomod back in 2017. It landed with a modern powertrain and a mildly refreshed cabin, and is now heading for sale once again.

The biggest improvement lies under the hood, where a new 5.7-liter Vortec V8 works in tandem with an Aisin AX15 five-speed manual transmission and a transfer case. The output isn’t specified, but this engine starts at 259 PS (255 hp / 190 kW) and can develop 500+ horsepower (370+ kilowatts) with enough tuning.

To make life a bit simpler for the modern driver, the old-timer comes equipped a rearview camera, a Warn winch and a bulky light bar on the roof. An improved aluminum radiator helps with the cooling, while custom wheels shod in mud-terrain tires make the whole build viable for off-roading.

The interior is rather basic, but the same could be said about the stock FJ40. Highlights include full leather upholstery with fabric inserts, a new steering column, heated bucket seats, and an audio system.

The seller points out that the SUV was made in 1969 and restored in 2017. It will now be heading to a Mecum auction in Houston on April 6, 2024. There are no price estimates right now.
