For 25 years in a row, Mercedes was the only FIA safety car provider, but things finally change this year with the introduction of these Aston Martin DBX and Vantage.
The British sports car maker unveiled the duo just three weeks prior to the start of this year’s Formula One championship. Of the two, the DBX serves as a medical car and the Vantage as a pace/safety car.
Both come powered by four-liter, twin-turbo V8s, one rated at 542 PS (535 hp / 400 kW) and the other one at 528 PS (521 hp / 388 kW). The standard spec sheet for this engine model says it maxes out at 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW), which means both were modded for performance.
Tweaks were also made in the gearbox, chassis and steering departments, Aston Martin reports. New bucket seats with six-point safety harnesses were installed inside.
