Wey introduces the X, an SAE Level 5 EV

Straight after introducing its all-electric SUV concept called the S, Chinese carmaker Wey proceeded to unveil another utility vehicle: the Wey-X.

Both cars appear to share the same principal architecture, and both have suicidal doors and self-driving tech on board. However, the S has a Level 4 system, whereas the X has a Level 5 one, which should mean that it can go completely unattended.

On the outside, the X sports an electronic tableau where the radiator grille usually is, and yet another display on the tailgate.

Inside, there are seats for four passengers, and a large solid screen spanning in front of the driver and the front-sitting passenger.

Technical specifications don’t exist yet, but the company claims the car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds, maxes out at 200 km/h (124 mph), and can cover up to 500 km (373 mi) on a single charge.

Just whether the Wey-X ever makes it into actual production remains uncertain at this time.
