Mazda CX-30 goes turbo in North America

Shortly after the Mazda 3 received its 2.5-liter turbo-four, the CX-30 SUV follows suit – and all the specs stay the same.

This means customers in the United States will be able to opt for the CX-30 with a Skyactiv-G Turbo mill rated at 253 hp (189 kW) and 434 Nm (320 lb-ft) of torque when using ON 98 gasoline. Tank up ON 92, and the numbers drop to 230 hp (172 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft). A six-speed auto gearbox sends the power to all four wheels using the i-Activ AWD system with the coupling on the rear axle.

Sprint times remain unannounced. Sales in the USA begin in late 2020 starting at approximately $35,000. The probability of this spec appearing on other markets is low, because Mazda is known for limiting its high-end drivetrains to certain markets. For instance, the CX-30 ships with a supercharged 2.0-liter Skyactiv-X engine in Europe, but not in the States.
