Tuners restore G-Class’ military comrade to full glory

Mercedes-Benz produced a military-grade G-Wagon model some years ago, which was called the 250GD Wolf. U.S.-based Expedition Motor Company obtained one of these and spent over 1,000 hours restoring it to top condition.

The team tore the made-in-1991 SUV down to the very frame, peeled off the paint and rust and repaired all worn-out parts. They gave the body a fresh milky-white paintjob and upgraded the suspension using Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks. The headlights received LED lamps, the arches became wider, and a gas canister holder appeared in the back. Last but not least, the engine received a snorkel pipe for wading through deep water.

Speaking of the engine, the 29-year-old Wolf got to keep its stock 2.5-liter five-cylinder diesel, but most of its components were replaced with newer and better ones, especially rubber ones like insulation rings. The five-speed manual box also received an overhaul, and a new transfer case was installed along with differentials.

In turn, the cabin received a saddle leather makeover while keeping the old gauges and equipment.
