Hyundai Ioniq 5 becomes a sales hit in Korea

Hyundai had barely launched the Ioniq 5 – its first electric SUV – when it instantly proceeded to become a domestic bestseller.

The company has taken a record 23,760 pre-orders within the launch day, erasing the previous record of 17,294 units of the sixth-gen Grandeur sold within a day in November 2019. The press service claims that ‘attentiveness to the customer’s expectations and needs’ was what helped achieve a new high.

The Ioniq 5 may look like a hatchback on the outside, but it belongs in the mid-size crossover SUV segment, and even has more wheelbase than the much larger Hyundai Palisade and Genesis GV80.

Aside from this, the retro-styled EV supports rapid charging, has a transforming interior and comes in Standard and Long Range versions. Customers can choose between RWD and AWD, and the power lies within the range of 170 – 306 PS (168 – 302 hp; 125 – 225 kW, respectively).

Prices in South Korea begin from 52.5 million KRW.
