Bentley Flying Spur goes hybrid

Bentley has announced a plug-in hybrid variant of its Flying Spur sedan, powered by the same 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 as the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid (although the latter version has three liters of displacement).

The V6 alone produces 416 PS (410 hp / 306 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque, while an electric motor inserted between the engine and transmission contributes another 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). The cumulative output amounts to 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque, surpassing both the Panamera and the Bentayga hybrids mentioned above.

Outfitted like this, the car needs 4.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph), getting there mere 0.2s behind its V8-powered ICE counterpart.

The traction battery stores up to 14.1 kilowatt-hours of power, converting it into 40 km (25 miles) of WLTP-rated range when necessary. It takes two and a half hours to charge from empty to 100% full. With a combined range of 700 kilometers (435 miles), the Flying Spur PHEV is the marque’s most energy-efficient model to date.

On the outside, you will recognize the Hybrid by its logo, four elliptical tailpipes, and a charging port. The catalog lists wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches in diameter, around 70 different exterior colors and 17 interior trim schemes.

Pre-orders will start later this summer, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2021.
