Mitsuoka releases Mazda MX-5 that looks like Chevrolet Corvette

There aren’t too many two-seat roadsters out there. Of those currently on the market, Mazda MX-5 is pretty popular, but its overall design is often called controversial. You may always consider a Fiat 124 Spider as a decent alternative, but Japanese tuner Mitsuoka has another option in store for you.

The Mitsuoka Rock Star uses the Mazda MX-5 as base but it clearly styled after the Chevrolet Corvette Mk2. Most of its body panels have been replaced with new ones for a better Chevy impression. The car also gained a chrome-coated front bumper, round headlights and brake lights, and a ventilated hood.

The interior is dead-stock Mazda MX-5, but you can always pay extra for expensive leather trimming, sport seats and other similar options.

The engine bay of the Mitsuoka Rock Star still holds on to its 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-G engine with only 130 hp (97 kW) and 152 Nm (112 lb×ft) of torque at its disposal. To compare, the Chevrolet corvette ships with engines two to three times as strong.

The upgrade costs the equivalent of U.S. 41,700 in Japan.
