Detailed information concerning the available trim configurations, engines and dimensions of the next-generation Land Rover Defender just surfaced on an automotive forum, allegedly leaked from the company’s internal files. There is no way to confirm or disprove the leak, but the specs seem plausible enough to warrant a closer look.
So, if we are to believe the published data, then the 2020 LR Defender will ship in three different versions: 90, 110, and 130. The former two will arrive on the market in 2020, but the latter won’t follow until 2021.
The Defender 90 will ship in five- and six-seat configurations. It will be 4,323 millimeters (14.18 feet) long, 1,999 mm (6.56 ft.) wide and 1,927 mm (6.32 ft.) tall with 2,587 mm (8.49 ft.) between the axles.
The Defender 100 will offer cabin layouts for five, six or seven passengers. It will be 4,758 mm (15.61 ft.) long, 1,999 mm (6.56 ft.) wide and 1,916 mm (6.29 ft.) tall with a wheelbase spanning 3,022 mm (9.91 ft.).
Finally, the Defender 130 will always be able to accommodate up to eight passengers. Just like the version mentioned above, it will be 1,999 mm (6.56 ft.) wide and 1,915 mm (6.29 ft.) tall with 3,022 mm (9.91 ft.) of wheelbase. That said, its length will amount to 5,100 millimeters (16.73 ft.).
Allegedly, customers will be able to choose from three gasoline and three diesel engines invariably linked to an automatic transmission and a 4WD system. The most basic trim will ship with a 2.0-liter P300 engine, the medium one will get a 3.0-liter P400 unit, and the topmost one will feature a hybrid powertrain based on a 2.0-liter turbo-four mill (P400e). The latter will sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds.
Sprint times for diesel versions range from 10 seconds (D200, basic trim) through 8.3 s (D240) to 7.4 s (D300, top trim).
By default, all SUVs will ship with LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, a multimedia system with a 10-inch display, and an auxiliary dashboard display. The ‘S’ trim version will take advantage of front fog lights and a 12-inch dashboard. The ‘SE’ configuration will ship with a high-end multi-channel audio system, parking assist and premium 20-inch wheels. The most expensive version will also benefit from a wide range of preinstalled driver aids.
Rumors say the new Land Rover Defender series will arrive priced at £40,000 and above.
