Fiat invading the all-electric market with new Ducato EV

In an official statement issued earlier today, Fiat said it intended to expand its product range to include all-electric vehicles. The lineup will begin with the Professional (LCV) Ducato van, which the company revealed during a private showing a few days ago. The premiere and launch dates remain unannounced.

The light commercial van (hence the ‘LCV’) will come powered by multiple large batteries. Despite this, it will feature class-leading cargo capacity: namely, between 10 and 17 cubic meters (350 – 600 cubic feet) and up to 1,950 kilograms (4,300 pounds).

The manufacturer says the van will have to make do with a single electric motor rated at 120 hp (90 kW) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque. Customers will have access to various trim versions and modifications ranging from commercial van to postal service vehicle.

The maximum driving range is NEDC-rated between 220 and 360 kilometers (137 and 224 miles, respectively). In real world conditions, we will be lucky if the car covers 150 km (90 miles) before asking for a recharge.
