2026 Cupra Born bows with major visual and tech upgrades

Cupra’s five-door Born hatchback debuted in 2021 as an all-electric vehicle and received a performance-packed VZ version in 2024. It has now been facelifted – let’s discuss the highlights.

The exterior of the new Born is fully in line with the Spanish brand’s latest design language. There’s a sophisticated and muscular-looking front end, triangular light patterns at both ends, and larger-than-usual air intakes. A spoiler and a diffuser reside at the back, and while the standard wheels are 19 inches large, you can pay a premium for 20-inch ones.

Inside, the digital dash panel has grown from 5.3 to 10.25 inches of diagonal size. The head unit has stayed the same size, but received an update to the latest version of the operating system. The three-spoke steering wheel ended up with nice physical buttons again, getting rid of the much-disliked capacitive ones.

Just as many updates took place under the metal. In its cheapest version, the new Cupra Born now makes do with just 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) as opposed to its predecessor’s 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW). However, the upside is that it now covers up to 450 km (280 miles) per charge, a 25-km (15.5-mi) improvement.

In its middle-ground spec called Endurance, the electric hot hatch switches to a superior 231-PS (228 hp / 170-kW) motor and a larger battery pack rated at 600 km (373 miles). Last but not least, the VZ spec now drives the rear wheels with 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW) while doing the same 600 km per charge as the Endurance. It also sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds.

The production will start in Germany in late spring, Cupra says. The first deliveries will be made in the summer, with prices still pending.
