Carroll Shelby’s own Cobra to go on sale in March

This Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake produced way back in 1966 will go on sale on March 20, 2021, and there is a handful of reasons for it to fetch its seller a small fortune.

First and foremost, the legendary Carroll Shelby himself used to drive it – the famous racing driver and founder of Carroll Shelby International, among other regalia. Second, Shelby had only ever built two Super Snake vehicles – one for himself and the other one for Bill Cosby. Third, Cosby sold his car, and it ended up at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, leaving this example the only surviving one.

The car comes powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 with seven liters of displacement and 800 horsepower (596 kilowatts) at the crank. Unlike its peers, it comes paired with an automatic gearbox rather than manual, and makes it from 0 to 97 kilometers per hour (0-60 mph) in three seconds flat.

The roadster is almost entirely authentic, never having been restored, having only received minor maintenance to stay close to factory condition.

The supercar changed owners 14 years ago, going under the hammer for 5.5 million USD and becoming the single most expensive auction vehicle in the USA. A bit later on, another Cobra dethroned it with 13.75 million USD.
