Acura recalls 19 TLX sedans with scratched tires

Acura and the NHTSA have announced a recall campaign targeting 19 TLX sedans that may have been shipped with damaged tires due to a vendor-side equipment malfunction.

Apparently, the tire-handling robot at Bridgestone was poorly calibrated and could inadvertently cut tire walls with a sharp edge. Whikle not immediately apparent on a new car, the issue could eventually lead to the tube losing pressure or the tire wearing down faster than it should.

The company believes that up to 18 out of the 19 recalled cars can be affected. Dealerships will check the tire manufacturing dates and replace any examples free of charge as long as they were made on September 1, 2022 – even if there are no visible defects.

Acura said it was not aware of any incidents connected with the issue. Bridgestone has replaced the faulty robot with a human employee for the time being.
