Alpina updates logo

Alpina, a renowned BMW tuner and customizer, is set to become a part of the Bavarian automaker at the end of the year. It looks like the company will be updating its logo by that date, CarBuzz reports pointing out a trademark application filed by Alpina in Germany.

Like the BMW badge, the current Alpina logo is round with circular lettering and an image in the middle. The new variant found in the application comes even closer to the BMW emblem from the design standpoint. It is flat and lacks the heraldic shield that Alpina had used since 1967. The lettering is still there, though, and so are the stylized images of a throttle valve and a crankshaft.

In its days of independence from the Bavarian concern, Alpina preferred to put its logo only on minor details, such as the hubcaps and the engine deck lid. The cars it produced were allowed to keep their BMW badging intact. We suppose that this could change after the tuner’s official integration in the company. BMW may want to launch a whole series of sports cars wearing the Alpina logo as a sub-brand emblem.

That’s just speculation, though. It could also use the new badge in online advertising and social media communications.
