Video: Alpine A110 S excels at moose test

Alpine has repeatedly emphasized that its A110 S sports coupe came ahead most of the competition in terms of sheer handling ease. The team of testers from km77.com decided to see how well that claim held up in real-life scenarios. Spoiler: really, really well.

For those who forgot, the car utilizes a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that resides within the wheelbase and produces 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW). It is enough to take the lightweight coupe 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.2 seconds and to a top speed of 275 km/h (171 mph). Only the rear wheels are driven.

Compared to the stock A110 model, the S features stiffer suspension and improved chassis, as well as Brembo brakes and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The moose test, otherwise known as the sudden obstacle evasion test, implies that the car must swerve from its lane at 77 km/h (47.8 mph) and then switch back into the lane as soon as possible. It is considered hard, but the Alpine tested actually managed to exceed everyone’s expectations by doing a clean run at 80 km/h (49.7 mph).

This is still behind the absolute record holders – the Tesla Model 3, Model Y and Ford Focus, all three of which managed 83 km/h (51.6 mph). However, the A110 did set a record of its own – watch the video to find out the details.
