Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro racer makes do without electricity

Aston Martin has unveiled the AMR Pro, a track-focused modification of its Valkyrie hypercar that debuted at the 2018 Geneva IMS (see video). A total of 40 production cars will ship to customers starting in the final quarter of 2021.

The British automaker designed a racecar two years ago, but decided against taking it to the WEC and 24 Hours of Le Mans in the wake of the COVID crisis last year. They then changed the project and implemented many of its features in the Valkyrie AMR Pro. Compared to its road-going counterpart, the racer has a wheelbase longer by 380 mm (14.84 inches), a front track wider by 96 mm (3.75”), and a rear track wider by 115 mm (4.5”). The body length gains 266 mm (10.4”).

Power comes from the usual Cosworth V12 still rated at 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 745 kW). The road-legal car makes use of a hybrid system that lifts its output to 1,176 PS (1,160 hp / 865 kW), but the AMR Pro sheds it in favor of weight reduction. The extent of said reduction has not been revealed yet.

The new Valkyrie can produce up to twice the downforce of the asphalt car, and has lateral accelerations exceeding 3g in curves.

Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel will take part in the final testing stage before the AMR Pro hits production.
