Audi Quattro barn find goes on sale after 24 years of gathering dust

A 1983 Audi Quattro that had sat in an Arizona barn since 2000 until recently is being auctioned off right now with the best offer at $16,900 – likely due to its poor condition.

We are told that the de-facto owner of the car didn’t buy it – they purchased real estate and never bothered to check out the barn. The car was apparently put in there by the previous owner of the land plot, who forgot about it.

The car had received no maintenance or other attention throughout the decades. It isn’t even clear in what condition it was around the year 2000 when it was stored away. At any rate, whoever decides to buy it will have their work cut out for them restoring the entire cabin from the ground up and possibly repairing the drivetrain and chassis, too.

As bad as the whole thing may look, the bodywork appears to be in decent condition given its age. Cold or wet weather is exceptionally rare in Arizona, and the barn had a decent enough roof to keep the paint from discoloring under direct sunlight. Even so, there’s no discounting the approximately 100,000 miles (over 150,000 km) of use on the odometer.

This particular Quattro example still has a 2.1-liter inline-five turbo under the hood, which was originally rated at 203 PS (200 hp / 149 kW). The mill took the coupe from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.1 seconds and to a top speed of 220 km/h (136 mph). The Quattro series (see video) is widely considered the trend-setter for light all-wheel-drive cars.
