Bentley has officially declared an upcoming lineup optimization that will see its V8-toting Continental GT and Flying Spur models discontinued. The two models will first disappear from Europe and the Middle East countries, followed by the United States later. There will be a farewell edition for the U.S. marker.
The British automaker has been using the latest design iteration of its 4.0-liter V8 since 2012. It currently produces up to 550 PS (542 hp / 405 kW) and 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) of torque in the cars it goes into. These include over 53,000 existing Continental GT convertibles and Flying Spur sedans. Once the two go out of production, the Bentley Bentayga will remain the company’s only vehicle to still utilize a V8 – the rest will transition to hybrid powertrains.
In the States, there will be a farewell-saying Edition 8, which will debut with unique styling cues but no extra engine power. It will introduce black exterior trim, 22-inch wheels, an exclusive exterior finish and a special cabin trim from Mulliner complete with unique badging and embroidery all around.
