BMW M8 Competition surpasses factory-rated sprint times

Car and Driver conducted a study with a BMW M8 Competition Coupe and came to the conclusion that the car packs considerably more thrust than the manufacturer cares to admit.

For one, it only needs 2.5 seconds to zap from rollout start to 97 km/h (0-60 mph). Rollout is drag racing lingo for starting the counter after the car has moved one foot (0.3 meters). It usually reduces the sprint times by 0.2 seconds, or 0.3s in the case of the M8 Competition.

Furthermore, the coupe proceeds to reach 161 km/h (100 mph) in 6.3s, 241 km/h (150 mph) in 15.5s, and 274 km/h (170 mph) in 22s. It covers a quarter of a mile in 20.7 seconds crossing the finish line at 208 km/h (129 mph). The top speed lies as high as 304 km/h (189 mph).

Compare this to the official data, according to which the M8 Competition needs 3.2 seconds for the first hundred kilometers per hour. The performance trim version has its 4.4.-liter V8 TT engine boosted to 625 PS (616 hp, or 459 kW) from the standard version’s 600 PS (591 hp, or 441 kW).
