Koenig Specials, a once-famous German tuning company, produced a trio of right-hand-drive sports cars named the KS8 Widebody back in the early nineties. All three were based on the BMW 850i coupe equipped with a naturally aspirated V12. Rewind to the present day, and a car collector bought a non-functioning example for a cool €99,000.
The stock coupe could barely manage 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW), but the tuner used forced injection to raise the output to roughly 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW). Unfortunately, the car shown here does not start due to broken wiring on every other cylinder and other mechanical issues. That it had stood abandoned in a garage for eight years didn’t help things much, either.
Nevertheless, the new owner is full of optimism. He reckons that the car is exceptionally valuable and just needs some attention. He plans to start with ironing out the technical quirks, then restore the interior and respray the body. The Koenig body kit all around – flared fenders, new front bumper with fog lights, side skirts and a rear spoiler – appears alright, but might also necessitate some work. As for the aftermarket wheels and the exhaust system, they seem just fine.
All in all, the collector hopes to have the KS8 Widebody up and running in a year or so.
