Rumor: BMW M5 CS has the same engine power as the Competition

The work on the next-gen BMW M5 is in full swing, but the car is only due out in 2024 or so. In the meantime, the current F90 generation is awaiting its CS version, which should come out late this year or in early 2021.

Sources are reporting that the limited edition will only stay in production for one year: from March 2021 through February 2022. Another interesting bit of conjecture concerns the powertrain. Both the M2 CS and M4 CS packed more power than their non-CS counterparts when they arrived. Many of us expected the M5 CS to continue this tradition, but this apparently won’t be the case: according to the latest rumors, the CS will ship with the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 as the M5 Competition, rated at 625 PS (616 hp / 460 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque.

Improvements will likely include tweaked suspension, new wheels, plenty of carbon fiber details, carbon-frame seats, individual rear seats, and carbon-ceramic brakes in standard features (the Competition trim has these listed under options).

Interestingly enough, a set of F90 M5 CS spare parts is currently listed as being on sale on a Polish website. It looks like the parts could stem from a pre-production car. Car spotters have spied the new CS multiple times before, the last time with an impressive-looking body kit including a front splitter and a rear spoiler.
