Car Tuning
Steve Dinan – a well-known car tuner – has recently founded an aftermarket workshop called CarBahn Autoworks in California, and now offers three tuning kits for the already great BMW M8 Competition.
The most affordable package is called GT and comes with enough components to squeeze 894 PS (882 hp / 657 kW) and 1,077 Nm (795 lb-ft) of torque out of the stock 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. Note that all numbers are given for ON100 fuel here; refer to the tuner’s website for more information.
The GT package replaces the heat exchangers, the intercoolers, the air filters and the engine software for $13,700.
A stronger option comes under the name of GTS. It improves upon the GT with enlarged turbos and a methanol injection system, and culminates in 952 PS (939 hp / 700 kW) and 1,077 Nm (795 lb-ft) of torque. It will set you back $23,700.
Finally, the range-topping GTC option ramps the power up to 1,014 metric horsepower (1,000 hp / 745 kW) while leaving the peak torque unchanged. Replacing most of the drivetrain components is predictably expensive, so look forward to spending as much as $43,000 if you want the best of the best.
In addition to the above, customers are invited to replace their boring OEM wheels with Forgeline rims wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup R rubber for $9,200. Rounding off the list are assorted suspension upgrades (prices pending).
