BMW M2 CS smashes through a ‘Ring record

BMW has set another record on the North Loop with its newest M2 CS completing the entire 20.8-kilometer track in 7 minutes 25.5 seconds.

The car has been recognized as the fastest mass-produced compact vehicle on the Nürburgring. Piloted by Jörg Weidinger, it surpassed the previous result by more than eight seconds and became the world’s first compact to complete the run in under 7:30.

An earlier M2 driven by Weidinger set a record in the same category in late summer of 2023, coming to the finish line in 7 minutes 38.7 seconds. It was later dethroned by another automaker. BMW reclaimed the pedestal on April 11, but hadn’t announced it until this week. This also explains why the car seen here wears camo – it hadn’t been introduced at the time.

The BMW M2 CS hit the spotlight in late spring with 530 PS (523 hp / 390 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque heading for the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Aside from a serious power advantage over the standard M2, it received a revised suspension and shed some weight.
