Uncanny Caterham roadster crops up on sale

This Caterham CSR 200 lived its life as a simplistic roadster with retro looks (see video) until Swiss-based tuner Helvetic Motor Company rebuilt it in a custom fixed-top body. The seller hopes to get €40,000–50,000 for it, but the bidding is lingering at €28,000 with a few days left on the auction clock.

A designer from the Formula 1 Sauber team participated in creating the new bodywork out of glass-fiber and carbon-fiber plastics. The resulting CSR 200 GT sports uniquely designed front and rear ends, flared fenders and a cozy little cab evoking associations with a golf cart. The doors swing open upwards along with parts of the roof.

The interior also received its share of modifications, ending up with an Alcantara-draped dashboard and a custom center console with metal switches on it.

Things stayed stock under the hood. The Cosworth-built 2.3-liter Ford engine still sends around 200 hp (150 kW) to the wheels.

Working with a 2009MY Caterham roadster, Helvetic Motor Company finished the CSR 200 GT in 2013. Despite being 11 years old, it has only around 9,500 km (5,900 miles) under its belt. The listing claims all modifications are registered and street-legal.
