Chery plans an expansion to Europe

Chinese automakers continue expanding their presence on the Old Continent, and Chery is no exception. According to Reuters, the company plans to introduce as many as three of its brands in the region until 2025 and is considering a local production site.

The new brands planned for debut in Europe include Omoda and Jaecoo. By the end of 2025, Chery expects to have at least some kind of representation on all key markets across Europe: France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and UK.

Among other models, the lineup will include three SUVs available in a wide range of powertrain options, some of them country-specific. This means that some markets may receive traditional ICE cars while others may get the same models with hybrid or all-electric powertrains. The Exlantix EV sub-brand will also arrive in Europe within the next couple of years.

The Chery Omoda 5 SUV is slated to go on sale in Spain before the end of the current year with a petrol engine under the hood. Germany will get it slightly later in ICE and electric flavors to choose between. The starting price is currently estimated at €30,000 – Chery believes it should be more than competitive, Reuters reports.

The company also plans to reach a conclusion soon regarding the construction of a local car assembly plant. Chery is looking to build a new industrial site in Europe or buy an existing one, but only if the conditions are acceptable. Whether it will happen or not will become clear before the end of the year.
