Meet the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, the ultimate hybrid super-Vette

The Corvette supercar rumored to be called “Zora” has finally arrived, but the company went with a different name for it – “ZR1X”. It’s slated to go on sale in late 2025, but all the details are already available.

Like the ZR1 that it is based upon, the X version uses a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8. It outputs 1,064 PS (1,049 hp / 783 kW) and 1,123 Nm (828 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In turn, the front wheels are driven in a manner similar to that of the Corvette E-Ray, but with a more powerful and robust motor. It makes 186 PS (183 hp / 137 kW) and 197 Nm (197 lb-ft) of torque, surpassing its predecessor by 26 horsepower (19 kilowatts). The battery is also bigger at 1.9 kW versus the E-Ray’s 1.1 kW, although it still only charges from regenerative braking. The motor disengages after reaching 250 km/h (155 mph), making the ZR1X a rear-wheel-drive car at these extreme accelerations.

The hybrid system’s combined output comes to 1,267 PS (1,250 hp / 932 kW). The car launches from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than two seconds and should be good for a sub-9-second quarter-mile run, Chevrolet reckons. It should also hit 240 km/h (150 mph) or so by the end of that distance.

Compared to the standard ZR1, the X supports a number of special drivetrain presets that drivers can switch between. When activated, they rebalance the power output between the V8 engine and the electric motor to maximize acceleration, handling or range. The car rides on adaptive suspension by default, but can be made stiffer if you opt for a package called ZTK Performance. It also comes with track-ready tires and chassis settings, as well as a body kit called Carbon Aero. Chevrolet claims it generates up to 540 kg (1,190 lbs) of downforce.

Last but by no means least, the ZR1X features the largest and most advanced brakes of any Chevrolet in history. 16.5-inch carbon-ceramic brake discs come bundled with 10-piston calipers at the front and 6-piston ones at the rear end.
