De Tomaso P72 reaches production readiness

De Tomaso first introduced its P72 mid-engined supercar in the summer of 2019, and it took it six years to finally come up with a production-ready example.

Just for the record: the car seen here is not for sale, the company says. It will be used for display and testing purposes. The actual production is slated to begin in late 2025, with the availability limited to just 72 units.

Compared to the original sketch, the final version of the P72 sports subtle body kit tweaks, like a redesigned rear diffuser, but largely stays recognizable. The interior has no touchscreens whatsoever, offering high-quality analog gauges and physical buttons instead. The climate vents are turbine-shaped, and the six-speed manual transmission features a gated lever design.

The whole car comes based on a carbon-fiber monocoque provided by HWA with subframes at both ends and adjustable suspension. What it lacks is the originally promised V12 of the Apollo Intensa Emozione: the engineers ultimately settled on a supercharged Ford V8 tuned by Roush. It outputs 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) and 820 Nm (610 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels.

Acceleration times and pricing remain to be revealed.
