The Italian tuner and restorer unveiled its Veloce12 restomod in 2024. It has now followed up with a roadster version also based on the Ferrari 550 Maranello, but with further body and suspension improvements. Prices are rumored to start close to $1,000,000.
Back when the 550 Maranello model came out, Pininfarina designed a Barchetta body for it. It had no folding top to speak of – just a light tent good enough as rain protection, but too flimsy to use at higher speeds. Only 450 supercars like that were made, some of them later becoming donors for the Veloce12 project.
Touring Superleggera begins by replacing the entire bodywork with lightweight compound panels. The design stays recognizable overall, but with major alterations, especially at the front end. There are new bumpers, a different air intake on the hood, new headlights, reshaped sides and fenders, and other aftermarket touches.
The engine stays stock 550 Maranello fare. This means a 5.5-liter V12 rated at 485 PS (478 hp / 357 kW). The stock car can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds and ultimately reach 290 km/h (180 mph). The tuner promises to painstakingly restore each engine from the ground up, pairing it with a six-speed manual transmission.
Last but not least, the restomod benefits from Tractive adjustable shock absorbers and Brembo brakes. Touring Superleggera also speaks about “rigidity improvements” for the chassis, but doesn’t go into detail.
When the original Veloce12 debuted, it had an engine boosted to 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW). Turning your own Ferrari 550 coupe into a Veloce12 cost €690,000 before options – and you still had to supply your own vehicle. We expect the new car seen here to cost at least the same or more.
