Craig Ferguson was worried that his friend, famous U.S.-based stand-up comedian and anchorman Jay Leno, would have nothing to do at all after his retirement in 2014. To keep Jay’s spirits up, he left him a gift at the studio’s parking lot: a rare 1968 Ford Bronco.
Despite his love for all things automotive, Ferguson could hardly believe Leno would actually take up the challenge and restore the derelict vehicle to top condition. Nevertheless, this is precisely what he did.
The master of Jay Leno’s Garage contacted Ford Performance with the request to have the SUV brought back to its former glory. In turn, Ford Performance contracted Kincer Chassis for the job (the company held the rights for the old Bronco tech at the time). Numerous other shops also participated in the project.
Ford Performance started things off by fitting the restomod with the latest 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine of the Shelby Mustang GT500 (760 PS, 750 hp, 553 kW). Dennis Carpenter Ford Restoration Parts supplied some replacement components, and SEMA Garage did the 3D scanning and printing.
LGE-CTS Motorsports, reportedly North America’s only all-female-managed car shop, did the painting and the finishing.
Frankly, Jay Leno’s Ford Bronco is one of those things you can go on about for hours on end, but we just suggest you watch the video instead. Better see it with your own eyes!
