Official: Ford to discontinue the Fiesta in 2023

The European office of Ford has announced the end of production of its Fiesta hatchback line next year. The model has seen eight generations throughout 46 years on the market, but declining sales and the pan-industrial move towards electrification sealed its future.

The company added that an all-electric car would fill in the gap left by the Fiesta. It did not provide any details.

Fiesta sales in Europe fell 45 percent to 39,000 units this August, a dismal result compared to the 90,000+ units of the Puma SUV and other models. The carmaker declined comment at this time, but promised to reveal more about the upcoming EV in the next few months.

Ford plans to raise its annual EV sales to 600,000 units by 2025 and eliminate ICE cars from production completely by 2030.
