An exotic Ford GTX1 roadster produced by a third party in a small batch in the mid-2000s is up for grabs in the USA right now with the bidding at $458,000 and a few days on the auction clock.
Rumor has that Genaddi Design Group produced only around 40 such vehicles out of the 500 planned (some say 100 out of 500). The base car was a stock 2005 Ford GT. The company was led by Kip Ewing, who had a hand in designing the original supercar. Ewing even managed to receive an approval from Ford for his project, so every car he built was covered by the original manufacturer’s warranty.
The example on sale sports a new roof composed of removable carbon-fiber panels with an H-shaped support in the middle. The original description of the car also mentions a cloth top, but it’s missing from the photos and the listing. All GTX1 models (see video) were also equipped with custom body kit parts and pop-up doors.
The stock 5.4-liter supercharged V8 also underwent a major tune-up. A number of Ford Performance aftermarket parts increased its output from the original 558 PS (550 hp / 410 kW) to 710 PS (700 hp / 522 kW). A six-speed, short-throw manual gearbox from Ricardo sends the torque to the wheels through a limited-slip differential. A new stainless-steel exhaust system rounds off the list of technical modifications.
Inside, the driver’s seat is mounted 50 mm (2 inches) lower than standard. One of the previous owners of the car on sale had it equipped with a Pioneer multimedia system and a reversing camera. Other than that, the vehicle is in good condition with less than 26,000 km (16,155 miles) on the clock.
