Shelby launches an incredibly expensive Ford Mustang

Back when Ford announced the $60,000+ Mustang Dark Horse, we expected it to be generally regarded as a new flagship. However, tuners must have found it lacking. Hennessey released its own boosted variant for around $165,000, and now, Shelby American has done the same with an even more ridiculously priced version.

It’s called the Super Snake-R and is based off the company’s own Super Snake performance package. A bigger supercharger for the standard 5.0-liter Coyote V8 allows it to make more than 862 PS (850 hp / 634 kW) at the crank. The drive is still on the rear axle, but customers are free to decide whether they need a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic. The car weighs around 52 kilos (116 pounds) more than stock, but runs much faster thanks to having almost double the power.

On the exterior side of things, you can recognize the Super Snake-R by its part-carbon body, Shelby’s trademark aero kit and 20-inch forged magnesium wheels. Buyers are choosing from five available body finishes.

The interior is every bit as exciting with its Shelby leather trim and artificial suede inserts. New additions include floor mats, running boards and manual gear lever (if applicable). Last but not least, the dashboard carries a plaque with the serial number of the car.

While it undoubtedly looks nice, would you be willing to hand over $225,995 for the Shelby Super Snake-R? That’s just supercar territory at this point, and the Mustang has never been one. What’s your take?
