Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 goes electric

Geely has previously offered its Galaxy Starshine 8 sedan exclusively as a plug-in hybrid, but it now looks like a fully-electric version is coming soon.

Based on the data uploaded to China’s Ministry of Industry database, the car is getting a 340-PS (335-hp / 250-kW) motor linked to an LFP battery pack of unspecified capacity. The patent also mentions a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph), but no other specifics.

Judging by the certification photos, the Galaxy Starshine 8 EV looks identical to its petrol-electric sibling and not really distinguishable from it unless you spot a badge that says “EV” on the trunk lid. The dimensions are also unchanged at 5,018 x 1,918 x 1,480 mm with 2,928 mm of wheelbase.

Understandably for what it is, the electric car weighs in at 2,030 kilograms in the base spec. Its hybrid counterpart ranges from 1,760 to 1,908 kilos depending on the spec. Customers get to choose from multiple wheel designs in 19 and 20 inch diameters. A LiDAR-assisted semi-autonomous driving system is listed as available but restricted to the top trims, same as for the hybrids.

The petrol-electric Starshine 8 arrived in the showrooms in China in May. It is available with two powertrains and battery sizes to choose from, one rated for 60 km (37 miles) of all-electric driving and the other one for 130 km (80 miles). Once refilled to the max, it can travel up to 1,600 km (994 miles) before needing another top-up, according to China’s own CLTC range measurement standard.

Prices start from 125,800 and reach 165,800 Yuan with all boxes ticked. It remains to be seen how much more expensive the EV will be when it goes on sale.
