A camper built with a 1977 GMC bus as the starting point is up for grabs in the United States right now with an asking price of $95,000. The vehicle accelerated to 121.5 mph (196 km/h) on Lake Bonneville, netting it the title of the world’s speediest RV.
Dubbed the MoHo, the bus is street-legal and in full driving condition, but you may still want to double-take buying it. Why? Because it is no longer a ‘motorhome’ in the full sense of the word. Vehicle Effects, a shop headed by famous Fast & Furious car tuner Dennis McCarthy, had it stripped of all living amenities and instead trimmed the interior with aluminum panels.
They also retrofitted the cockpit with racing seats, gauges and a safety cage. Further modifications included an aero kit, rotor brakes, new suspension, a fire extinguishing system and surround view cameras.
A Chevy 502 Ram engine slotted into the engine bay to drive the wheels with 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW), and a nitrous oxide system was added for particularly rapid acceleration. One has to wonder whether the MoHo can still be considered the world’s fastest motorhome or simply a very fast bus.
The seller points out that the ride lends itself well to a number of roles including party bus, mobile snack booth and escort vehicle.
