Honda pledges to go electric by 2022

Japanese carmaker Honda has decided to speed up the implementation of its total electrification strategy, making all Europe-sold cars either hybrid or all-electric as early as 2022.

The original plans set the deadline for 2025, but the company felt the need to move with the times. Furthermore, Honda said it intended to drop diesel engines from the lineup completely in the next few years.

It is official that the BEV series will emerge under the name e:Technology. Aside from cars, it will also incorporate fully electric, tech-heavy bikes.

Honda’s latest premiere was dedicated to the battery SUV called X-NV (see our gallery and video). Its claimed driving range amounts to 400 kilometers (250 miles), but the maximum speed is capped at 140 km/h (87 mph).
