Honda introduces its Super GT racecar prototype

Honda has attended the Tokyo Auto Salon with a unique Civic Type R-GT Concept, a car that heralds the coming of a Super GT racer in 2024.

The national championship allows the participation of cars that look similar to production models but benefit from all-new tech under the hood. The racer shown here may look a bit like its titular Civic Type R hot hatch – largely thanks to the lights and the overall outlines – but it is essentially a different car. The body kit consists of a front splitter, side canards, side skirts, a rear diffuser and a large rear wing.

Elsewhere, the concept sports air intakes in the front fenders, centerlock wheels, exhaust pipes running down its right side and a Honda Racing livery in the division’s trademark white, red and blue shades.

There is still no technical information. The regulations demand RWD, and we know that the racecar will surpass the stock Civic Type R with its 320-330 horsepower at the crank, but that’s about it. We should hopefully learn more when the tests begin in summer.

The Honda Civic Type R-GT is coming to replace the NSX-GT Type S racer based on the now-discontinued Honda NSX.
