Drag Race: New vs. Old Civic Type R

The latest Honda Civic Type R is great for fast lane driving with its large rear wing and useful body kit. That said, its predecessor isn’t too bad either, especially since the drivetrain is basically the same. In AutoTrader’s latest video, the two models get compared on the quarter-mile drag strip.

Both Type Rs use the two-liter, four-cylinder engine known as the Honda K20C1. The newer model extracts 330 PS (325 hp / 243 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque out of it, while the old one gets 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).

Sure, there is a difference, but it is minimal. Both pack six-speed manual for transmission and have the drive on the front wheels.

The 12-minute-long video includes multiple standing and rolling races. Mild spoilers: the match is very close.
