Hongqi surprises Beijing Show guests with a frame-based super-off-roader

The Chinese luxury automaker has brought a fairly niche vehicle to this year’s Auto China expo. Rather than showcasing another executive car, it debuted a body-on-frame SUV provisionally known as the P567.

The newcomer is 5,135 mm (202.2 inches) long, 2,050 mm (80.7 inches) wide and 1,950 mm (76.8 inches) tall with 2.9 meters (114.2 inches) between the axles. It features Defender-like crescent moon headlights, an upright radiator grille, a spare wheel on the tailgate and air suspension as standard. The LiDAR above the windshield suggests advanced electronic assists, but the company has yet to reveal more about them.

Power for the P567 comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine. It generates electricity for a quartet of electric motors that develop up to 843 PS (831 hp / 620 kW) and 1,320 Nm (974 lb-ft) of torque. Despite its considerable bulk, the SUV sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds.

The company also mentions limited-slip front and rear differentials and up to 280 kilometers (174 miles) of all-electric range. With the engine functioning as a generator, the range goes up to 1,350 km (838 miles).

The interior has only been partially revealed so far. Hongqi is teaming up with local aftermarket brand Yunliang on this product launch, meaning there will be accessories like all-weather floor mats, a roof rack and hang-on luggage boxes to choose from.

Sales will start in the second half of 2026. All prices are pending.
