Rumor: Hyundai preparing a new China-only EV

Hyundai is developing a sedan for the Chinese market, AutoHome.cn reports quoting anonymous sources. It is allegedly slated for debut and launch in early 2026.

All we know right now is that the car will take advantage of the company’s latest achievements in battery technology and power saving. All electronic assists and infotainment services will reportedly be localized to suit the Chinese customers’ tastes. The production will be handled by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture.

AutoHome.cn assures us that all these promises aren’t mere marketing. Instead, they demonstrate the dedication that Hyundai has towards serving the world’s largest electric vehicle market right now. The Korean company plans to keep expending its CDM (Chinese domestic market) lineup paying close attention to the local preferences and producing as many components as possible in the country. It even maintains a dedicated research center in China to accelerate new car development.

Hyundai’s first vehicle designed with the above principles in mind was the Elexio, which you will find in the gallery and the video here. It is slated to go on sale in September this year. At the same time, the Korean automaker is looking to create alliances with local automakers in other countries. For example, in early August, the company announced as many as five new models coming to the market as a result of a collaboration with General Motors.
