Ineos Grenadier set to go all-electric in 2026

Representatives of Ineos, the company that revived the classic Land Rover Defender in a new model named Grenadier, said in an interview with CarSales that the marque was getting ready to announce an all-electric SUV.

According to them, the EV would run on a different platform – not the same ladder frame as the Grenadier – but would still be a capable off-roader when it goes on sale around 2026.

The vehicle will utilize a ‘skateboard’ chassis popular among EV makers. The Ineos engineering team had apparently considered integrating power cells straight into the existing frame of the Grenadier, but concluded that it would be simpler and less expensive to design a new platform from scratch. The projected driving range per charge exceeds 400 km, or 250 miles.

Since the development proceeds with the assistance of Magna Steyr, which is also a partner of Fisker, the car might end up being related to the Fisker Ocean. It remains to be seen, though.

Aside from its Defender-inspired lineup, Ineos is considering making less specialized vehicles. Among other things, we are told that the company is currently designing an urban CUV and an off-roader that will offer more luxury and comfort than the Grenadier.
