Kia facelifts the K9

Kia has introduced the latest version of its K9 flagship saloon on the domestic market. Prices start from 59,330,000 Korean Won, or 43,900 USD.

The opulent four-door vehicle now sports a thinner, less conspicuous bezel around the radiator grille, giving it a more modern look. The grille pattern has also changed from horizontal slats to V-inserts. New 19-inch wheels and a Pebble Gray finish round off major exterior changes.

Inside, the climate control system features a new mode called After Blow. It continues venting the HVAC ducts for a while after it gets turned off in order to eliminate any remaining water condensate, which can cause mold and bacterial growth. The feature doesn’t turn on when the battery is low, the outdoor temperature is freezing or the AC hasn’t been used in a while.

For the cabin trim, buyers can choose between Martian Brown and Misty Gray. The front passenger seat now comes with built-in massagers, and the car offers more USB ports than before. Last but not least, many optional features in higher trims have become standard.

The powertrain options are all the same. In South Korea, Kia sells the K9 with a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine rated at 318 PS (314 hp / 234 kW) and a 3.3-liter turbo capable of 370 PS (365 hp / 272 kW). Both engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and no other options, but you can pay a premium for AWD.

The Kia K9 was added to the company’s portfolio in 2018, when it was still called the K900. A major mid-generational refresh in 2021 saw it renamed to K9 (see video).
