An 11-year-old Lexus LFA supercar will go under the hammer in the USA in early January, expected to fetch up to $950,000 thanks to its exclusive status (see video) and exceptional condition. It was one of 38 units finished in Absolutely Red at the factory, and has put only 109 km (67 miles) on the odometer since 2012.
The original Lexus LFA debuted in 2010 and was considered a personal project of the corporation’s CEO at the time, Akio Toyoda. Apparently, Toyoda wanted to prove to the world at large that his company was capable of building supercars not inferior in any way to those made by the leading Italian marques. It was a partial success: the coupe garnered glowing feedback, but the sales were slow and some dealerships in the United States still offered never-used cars in 2019.
The LFA packed a proprietary 4.8-liter V10 engine rated at 560 PS (552 hp / 412 kW) in tandem with a six-speed transmission and RWD. It sprinted 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.7 seconds.
The car on sale was number 270 in a batch of 500. Aside from its rare red paint job, the owner optioned it with 20-inch polished wheels, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes with yellow calipers and a Mark Levinson audio system. Red leather was chosen for the interior trim.
