Confirmed: Lincoln & Rivian team up on a new electrified SUV

Rumors emerged last fall that automakers Lincoln and Rivian were working on a new hybrid or all-electric vehicle together. The latest video from Lincoln confirms this.

Note the blue-lit logo that the company uses exclusively for its electric and electrified (hybrid) models.

The new car should come out in mid-2022 based on the skateboard chassis designed by Rivian. The collaboration between the two looks quite promising, especially considering that Ford – the owner of the Lincoln brand name – has invested U.S. $500 million into the startup company.

Rivian is currently busy getting its first two vehicles ready to rumble: the R1S SUV and the R1T pickup truck. Both pack the same quad-motor powertrain rated between 408 and 746 hp (304 – 556 kW) and offer a choice from three batteries: 105, 135, and 180 kWh. The range varies between 240 and 410 miles (386 – 660 kilometers) based on the battery size.
