Mazda CX-70 set to debut in late 2023 based on CX-90 tech

The just-introduced Mazda CX-90 is not going to be the carmaker’s only major premiere this year. At least one more SUV is coming up: the CX-70.

The newcomer will be based on the same architecture as the CX-90 featured in the gallery and the video below. It will be smaller and a five-seater by design. The unveiling in the USA is expected in late 2023.

There is little else we know about the CX-70 at this moment. As for the CX-90, it will ship with a choice between two drivetrains: 2.5-liter four-cylinder PHEV and 3.3-liter inline-six turbo MHEV. The latter will be Mazda’s most powerful drivetrain to date with 345 PS (340 hp / 254 kW) and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque going to the wheels. On-demand AWD will be available in both versions.

The plug-in hybrid will utilize a 17.8-kWh battery and send 327 PS (323 hp / 241 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels in normal mode and all four when required.
