McLaren makes a 1.8-second pit stop, setting a new F1 record

During the Qatar stage of this year’s Formula 1 season, the McLaren team was able to service its racecar in 1.8 seconds, setting a new world record.

Thanks to the record-fast actions of the pit stop mechanics, driver Lando Norris was able to score the 3rd place in the race. McLaren currently resides on the 5th position in the Constructors’ Cup overall standing, lacking only 11 points to the 4th.

The previous record holder, Red Bull, made a 1.82-second pit stop back in 2019. It happened during the F1 Brazil stage, and the thing to note is that the racecar rode on lightweight 13-inch tires. The current regulations mandate the use of larger, heavier 18-inch tires, so setting the record must have been no small feat.
